CITB SSSTS Refresher 1 Day Course

Overview

This 1 day CITB SSSTS Refresher Course is intended for those who currently hold the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme certificate and now need to update their skills and knowledge in line with current legislation and maintain their SSSTS qualification.  This highly interactive course is delivered by means of case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual / group presentations.

The SSSTS and SSSTS Refresher course is endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group as the standard training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites.

Delegates under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or guardian to successfully attend.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Any Delegate that does not attend prior to the end date of their certificate will risk their right to attend a refresher course and will be required to attend the full 2 day SSSTS course.

Objectives

On successful completion of the SSSTS Refresher course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand problems currently highlighted in the industry within their role.
  • Have an understanding of how health and safety law is currently structured
  • Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the manager in controlling the site safely
  • Carry out site inductions, briefings, tool box talks and understand the need for method statements
  • Improve communication routes within site activities.

This SSSTS Refresher training course will cover the following topics:

  • Current enforcement priorities / HSE / Environment
  • Fire risks and emergency procedures and reporting.
  • Best practice updates:-
  • Noise and vibration
  • Dermatitis
  • Asbestos
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Stress factors
  • Dynamic risk assessment procedures
  • Hazardous substances
  • Work at height
  • Manual handling
  • Tool box talks

Assessment

At the end of the CITB SSSTS Refresher course delegates are required to sit an exam paper consisting of 25 questions, of which 4 are safety critical and require a short written answer.  Multiple choice questions are worth 1 point each and safety critical questions are worth 1-3 points each.   In order to pass the course delegates MUST answer ALL of safety critical questions correctly.  The SSSTS Refresher Course pass rate is 80% (24 out of 30)

Delegates who successfully complete the assessment are awarded the CITB SSSTS - Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme certificate which is valid for 5 years.

Who Should Attend?

Any delegate with a current in-date SSSTS certificate which is due to expire.

Suggested Progression

Delegates may choose to progress to the 5 day CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course or NVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Supervision.

Accreditation

CITB - Construction Industry Training Board (Site Safety Plus)

Prerequisites

Only those delegates who have passed the two day SSSTS course or one day SSSTS Refresher course, and can provide evidence of this, are eligible to attend the one day SSSTS refresher course. Delegates must have passed the full SSSTS course or SSSTS Refresher within five years of the refresher course start date to be eligible.

A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.

  • When will I receive my certificate?

    CITB certificates are issued electronically via email, and typically take around 2 weeks to be issued.  You can also view your results online via the CITB profile at www.citb.co.uk/cards-testing/online-card-checker

     

  • Will lunch be Included?

    The joining instructions will indicate if lunch is provided for the duration of your course.  Should you need to know prior to booking please contact one of our team who will be happy to advise.

  • When will I receive my Course Joining Instructions?

    Course joining instructions are sent 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  If you book within this time frame they are emailed within 24 hours of the booking being placed.

  • Do I have to attend all days/sessions?

    Full attendance on all days, at the required times stated on your course joining instructions, is compulsory to successfully complete the course.

  • What time does my course start?

    Start and finish times are confirmed on your joining instructions which are issued 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  Failure to arrive at the requested time may result in the delegate being turned away.

  • Can I complete a name change on my booking?

    Yes, a name change can be completed free of charge providing the delegate being substituted has the required pre-requisites. You can submit your request by emailing our customer service team at training@easybooktraining.co.uk or calling on 01892 543000.

  • Why do I need to provide a pre-requisite?

    Pre-requisites are requested when the awarding body requires proof of a previous in date qualification or experience, to ensure delegates are eligible to attend. These guidelines are set policies which we are not able to amend.  If you do have any queries or are unable to provide sufficient evidence please contact our customer service team at your earliest convenience on 01892 543000.

  • Will I receive a card with my certificate?

    CITB do not currently offer a card option in place of the e-cert.

  • What happens if I fail the course?

    If you should fail the course our customer service team will be in contact to discuss your options.  Our team will talk through the process to help you achieve the qualification required in the most effective way.
