First Aid at Work Refresher Course

Overview

The First Aid at Work Refresher Course is designed to update the skills of delegates wishing to renew their existing 3 day First Aid at Work Certificate.

Delegates must be in possession of a First Aid at Work or a First Aid at Work Refresher Certificate. If the certificate has expired, then please contact our training team for further guidance on 08000 931189.

The first aid at work Refresher course involves at least 12 hours of training and is run over two days.

IMORTANT INFORMATION - From 11th February all delegates are required to wear a face covering whilst inside the training venue (unless eating or drinking).  This also includes those with medical exemptions.  Should you have any questions relating to this change please don't hesitate to contact our customer service team on 01892 543000.

Objectives

This First aid refresher course aims to update and refresh your knowledge of the First aid at work syllabus which inculde the following:

  • Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
  • Deal with an unconscious casualty
  • Carry out resuscitation (CPR)
  • Control bleeding and manage shock
  • Deal with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Deal with a casualty suffering burns and scalds
  • Manage eye injuries
  • Deal with casualties overcome by fumes or suffering from poisoning
  • Deal with a broad range of common injuries and illnesses until the arrival of medical care
  • Maintain first aid records
  • Use and maintain first aid kits
  • AED (Use of a AED, chain of survival, safety considerations)

  • Basic Life Support
  • Examination of a Casualty
  • Unconsciousness
  • Control of Bleeding
  • Fractures
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Common Illnesses
  • Chest Pains including Heart Attacks & Angina
  • Eye Injuries
  • Head injuries
  • Seizures (Adults)
  • Shock
  • Asthma
  • Fainting/Feeling Faint
  • Low Blood Sugar/Diabetic Emergencies
  • Allergic reaction
  • Stroke
  • Spinal injuries
  • Dressings
  • Recording and Reporting
  • Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations
  • First Aid Kits

 

Assessment

Delegates will be assessed via continuous trainer observation and written assessments.

On successful completion of the course and assessments, the delegate will receive their First Aid at Work Certificate. This is valid for three years.

 

 

Who Should Attend?

This course is for people wishing to renew a valid First aid at work certificate.

Suggested Progression

Under the current guidelines it is "strongly recommended" that first-aiders undertake an annual half day refresher course and a full re-qualification by the 3 year expiry.

Prerequisites

Delegates must be in possession of a current First Aid at Work or a First Aid at Work Refresher Certificate. If certification has expired the delegate is no longer considered to be a qualified First Aider.

Medical Declaration

For the safety of yourself and others, it is recommended, if you are currently suffering or have ever suffered with any of the following medical problems or conditions to check with your GP before attending the course: -

  • back, neck, arm or knee problems
  • rupture or hernia
  • heart disease, high blood pressure, bronchitis, asthma or chest problems
  • blackouts, seizures or epilepsy

For the safety of yourself and others, it is recommended, if you are currently or have recently been pregnant to check with your GP before attending this course.

It is the responsibility of the employer to choose a person who can physically fulfil the role of a first aider in the workplace.

Please note that we reserve the right to prevent the delegate from completing the course if they should have any of the above problems or if they are pregnant and the trainer feels that the delegate could put themself of others in danger.

  • Will lunch be Included?

    The joining instructions will indicate if lunch is provided for the duration of your course.  Should you need to know prior to booking please contact one of our team who will be happy to advise.

  • When will I receive my Course Joining Instructions?

    Course joining instructions are sent 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  If you book within this time frame they are emailed within 24 hours of the booking being placed.

  • Do I have to attend all days/sessions?

    Full attendance on all days, at the required times stated on your course joining instructions, is compulsory to successfully complete the course.

  • What time does my course start?

    Start and finish times are confirmed on your joining instructions which are issued 7 to 10 days prior to course commencement.  Failure to arrive at the requested time may result in the delegate being turned away.

  • Can I complete a name change on my booking?

    Yes, a name change can be completed free of charge providing the delegate being substituted has the required pre-requisites. You can submit your request by emailing our customer service team at training@easybooktraining.co.uk or calling on 01892 543000.

  • Why do I need to provide a pre-requisite?

    Pre-requisites are requested when the awarding body requires proof of a previous in date qualification or experience, to ensure delegates are eligible to attend.
