Q & A on First Aid at Work Training

Why do I need to take a First Aid at Work course?
Are you able to stay calm in an otherwise stressful emergency situation? If so, then you could very well be asked by your place of work to be the nominated first aider and therefore will have to go through First Aid at Work (FAW) training to ensure you are aware and know all of the procedures.

It is also a great opportunity for anyone who is looking for an introduction to First Aid or simply to gain these relevant skills for their own peace of mind.

How often do I need to take a refresher course?
Once you have successfully completed a First Aid at Work course it is valid for three years. You will therefore need to take a refresher course to continue to be qualified in this area. The refresher course will need to be taken within 28 days of the expiration date of your current certificate and to renew your certificate you need to partake in at least 12 hours of training which is spread over two days. It will allow you to refresh your knowledge on the subject and also become up to date with any information that may have changed or been added to the criteria. However, the HSE does suggest that first aiders take a half day refresher course every year to enable them to be confident in any situation that may arise.

How will I be assessed on the course?
If you are looking to gain these skills you will have to complete the three day course and once you have done so you will be required to undertake a final assessment. Once the candidate has passed their assessment they will then be awarded with a certificate.

How can I take the training course?
The FAW training course involves at least 18 hours of training and will take place over three days. The course takes place in a classroom environment and we hold courses nationwide so there is bound to be one in a convenient location that suits you.

What level of course do I need to take?
The level of course you decide to pursue depends on your role and your requirements. We offer the following First Aid training courses to cater for everyone;

We also host a Paediatric First Aid course that meets the Early Years Foundation and Ofsted requirements, so should be completed by anyone working with children such as nannies, childminders and teachers.
