Q & A on Food Safety Training

Why do I need to take a Food Safety course?
If you are working in the food, retail or hospitality industries it is extremely important that you and your staff are well versed in food safety law and legislation. If you do not take a course to find out all the relevant law and legislation relevant to your industry, you may be open to formal action being taken against you, should any mishaps arise such as reported cases of food poisoning. Other than being compliant with the law, it just makes good business sense to have your staff trained so that your business can be the best and safest as it can be.

How often do I need to take a refresher course?
According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) a UK Food Hygiene Certificate does not have an expiry date. The need to take a refresher course is entirely at the discretion of the individual and the business. Legislation is always changing however so it is recommended that employers and employees take a refresher course every few years.

How do I know if I need to take a Food Safety course?
Anyone who works in a role or looking to get into a role that requires them to sell alcohol or food, both on and off the retail site should undertake a food safety course.

How will I be assessed on the course?
The assessments for each course will be different. For a Level 2 Award for ALPHA you may just need to take a multiple-choice examination, whereas a Level 4 Award for Managing Food Safety may require a written examination and timed assessment. Each course provider and each course level will be assessed differently. You can find out more about the course you are interested in by going to the course on easybooktraining.co.uk and selecting the 'assessment' tab.
