Q & A on SMSTS Training

What is SMSTS?

SMSTS stands for Site Manager Safety Training Scheme and is a course targeted at people working in the construction industry. It is a CITB accredited course which means it is recognised by Construction Industry Training Board. It is advised that this course is taken by all small to medium business owners, site managers and site agents.

Why do I need to undertake SMSTS training?

SMSTS training is an important part in any construction site supervisor training and is carefully tailored to day to day tasks. A construction site can be a dangerous environment to work in and therefore it is essential for team leaders and supervisors to be familiar and confident with safety regulations and aware of surrounding dangers.

If you are in charge of a team, no matter how big or small, it is highly important that you work and live by the regulations you will learn on this course. Understanding the correct work procedures can go a long way in the prevention of accidents and injuries on a construction site.

How often do I need to take a SMSTS refresher course?

The certificate is valid for five years once completed and it is required that you take a refresher course when your certificate is near expiry. Changes in legislations can be common so it is vital to take the refresher course and ensure your knowledge in always up to date. The SMSTS refresher course is short and sweet. It will last just two days as it will simply be touching on aspects you should hopefully already be familiar with.

How will I be assessed on the course?

You will be assessed during individual and group exercises at the end of the course and awarded a certificate.
