The NEBOSH General Certificate to help reduce accidents

The NEBOSH General Certificate is one of our most popular courses as it teaches the basics in health and safety.  This means the course can be undertaken by anyone, although it is generally taken by delegates wanting to, or already working within the health and safety industry.  

 

Workplace injury in construction may be decreasing, but injury in other industries is on the increase.  This is largely because people don't understand the risks involved in certain workplaces.  The most common causes of injury within the workplace are listed as falling or tripping, over exertion and being struck by an object.  All of these common causes could be avoided with a simple risk assessment and the basic knowledge of health and safety.  Last year there were 27million working days lost in the UK due to health and safety accidents, so this is something which needs to be addressed in industry.  

 

Experts state there is nothing more important that correct health and safety training for an employee.  This is because the majority of accidents take place due to unsafe acts rather than unsafe conditions.  The majority of injuries in the workplace can be compared to car accidents, the cause being mechanical failure can happen but is rare.  Careless or unsafe driving is generally the cause of a car accident.  Employers have the responsibility of ensuring all the equipment within the office are safe to work with, they are also responsible for employee health and safety training.  

 

Once an employee has been given the correct health and safety training it is then up to the employee to ensure their training is put into practice.  The NEBOSH General Certificate teaches delegates all of their personal responsibilities within the workplace and how they can apply their learnings into the workplace.  

 

The NEBOSH General Certificate is accepted by the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH), which means it is accepted within industry as teaching everything delegates need to know about health and safety.  Whilst the NEBOSH General Certificate can be undertaken by anyone, it is a ten day classroom course, so we recommend it for those who will be working in a health and safety role.  For example, Human Resource Managers, Safety Officers and anyone else requiring a good understanding of health and safety.
