Workplace Health and Safety

Employers have a legal obligation to take workplace health and safety seriously.  This means ensuring that all employees receive the appropriate health and safety training to complete their job, as well as protecting customers and at times, the public.  Businesses are subject to inspections to ensure that they are treating health and safety seriously.

Employers have a duty under section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure the health and safety of their employees and anyone who will come into contact with their organisation.  The regulations are intended to protect everyone in the workplace as well as ensuring that adequate welfare facilities are provided for all members of the workforce, including those who may suffer from disabilities.

There are various safety aspects which are covered within the Act.  For example, all equipment used within the workplace should be maintained in efficient working order.  This is to reduce the risk of any hazards occurring.

It is also important in workplace safety that all floor routes are kept clear, maintained and accessible.  This could be a corridor within the workplace, or on a construction site, it may be an area for pedestrians to walk through the site.   There should be a sufficient amount of routes, to allow people to move safely with ease.   Floor routes are also important in the case of a fire, which is why they should be left clear and well lit.

There are various different aspects of safety which organisations are responsible for.  As well as this, organisations are responsible for the health of their workers in the general working environment.  This includes ensuring there is adequate heating and ventilation meaning that all workers are comfortable in their working environment.

At Easybook Training, we offer a number of different workplace health and safety courses which you can send delegates on.  These include NEBOSH training courses and IOSH training courses, which are nationally and internationally recognised.  There are various different types of NEBOSH and IOSH courses available, depending on the qualification you are looking for and the level of your job.  The most important thing about these courses is that they require little or no previous health and safety knowledge.  This means they can be undertaken by anyone.
