PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course

Using a combination of classroom-based learning and hands-on practical sessions, the PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course gives delegates the knowledge to safely construct, alter, move, inspect or dismantle mobile access towers, folding low level scaffolds and work platforms over one day. Anyone whose work touches on broader Working at Height Training will find this course a solid, practical foundation before progressing further.

You'll need to pass the PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course before moving on to more advanced PASMA training, such as the PASMA Tower on Stairs Course or Towers with Cantilevers. Limited to just eight delegates, this course covers platforms manufactured in aluminium alloy or fibreglass, approved to BS EN 1004:2004, and low level access units to PAS250, carrying a British Standard or equivalent mark of approval.

Upon successfully passing both the theory and practical assessments, delegates access their virtual photo-card and certificate via the TowerSure app, available for both iOS and Android devices; certification is valid for five years. Please note that PASMA can take up to four weeks to issue certification, and should a physical copy be required, additional fees will be incurred. All delegates will be required, in groups of up to four persons, to assist in the assembly, alteration, moving and dismantling of a 4.2m mobile tower.

• Hazards associated with using mobile access towers and low level access units
• Your responsibilities in building, using and dismantling towers, platforms and units
• Multiple-choice theory assessment
• Practical training and assessment

On completion of the theory training on the PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course, you'll take:

• A multiple-choice theory test, with a pass mark of 80%
• A practical assessment, building a mobile access tower using both the 3T method (through the trap) and the advanced guardrail (AGR) method

Students who successfully pass both assessments access their PASMA Certificate and Photocard via the TowerSure app. Should a physical copy be required, additional fees will be incurred. Certification is valid for five years, and please note that PASMA can take up to four weeks to issue certification.

If your job involves the use of mobile access towers, low level access units or podiums, the PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course will teach you how to build, adjust, move, inspect and dismantle equipment safely and effectively. Whether you work on a construction site, in a school, office or factory, the key principles of working with access towers and low level access units apply, inside and outside.

To attend, you'll need to be:

• Comfortable working at height, as part of your assessment will involve carrying out a practical demonstration of building a mobile access tower
• Confident in English, since you'll need to read safety notices and explain parts of the manufacturer's instruction manual

Candidates attending the PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course must meet the following entry requirements: be at least 16 years old, be literate in English, and be physically fit.

Since the safe use of mobile access towers requires delegates to consult safety notices and thoroughly understand the manufacturer's instruction manual, literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any tower user. Similarly, since the assembly and use of mobile access towers can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health, and should generally not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights or vertigo, giddiness or difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, or alcohol, drug dependence or psychiatric illness. Anyone with concerns about literacy, language comprehension or fitness should raise them with their employer, who can assess and put suitable measures in place.

All delegates will be required, in groups of up to four persons, to assist in the assembly, alteration, moving and dismantling of a 4.2m mobile tower. Any delegate who displays a fear of height that would, in the opinion of the instructor, make them a danger to themselves or others may be failed on the practical assessment.
