Paediatric First Aid Course

Caring for young children brings a different set of emergency scenarios entirely, and the Paediatric First Aid Course meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, giving teachers, au pairs, playgroup leaders and childminders the confidence to respond calmly when a child becomes unwell or injures themselves. Unlike the Emergency First Aid at Work Course, which focuses on adult workplace incidents, the Paediatric First Aid Course is built entirely around the conditions and injuries most likely to affect children up to eight years old.

The Paediatric First Aid Course meets Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and the requirements for nannies under the Approved Carers Scheme, and can also be used as evidence for employees working towards an NVQ in Childcare and Education. Delegates cover a genuinely broad range of paediatric conditions, from resuscitation, choking and febrile convulsions through to asthma, epilepsy, diabetes and anaphylactic shock, along with practical skills such as recovery positions, treating burns and fractures, and recording accidents and incidents correctly.

Because the course is practical in nature, it's recommended that students wear casual clothing, since much of the training involves hands-on scenarios rather than classroom theory alone.

Please note that a medical declaration applies: anyone currently suffering or with a history of back, neck, arm or knee problems, rupture or hernia, heart disease, high blood pressure, bronchitis, asthma or chest problems, blackouts, seizures or epilepsy, or anyone currently or recently pregnant, is advised to check with their GP before attending, and the training provider reserves the right to prevent a delegate from completing the course where safety could be put at risk.
