Are you thinking about taking an eLearning or online training course? You should. The modern world means that we can learn from anywhere we like – including home. No longer do you need to attend classrooms and sit with other students; it can all be done remotely and personally. However, many people are put off by eLearning as they have picked up some common myths and misconceptions about what it entails.
In a bid to help you avoid that problem, here are some common myths about eLearning that have been debunked to help you feel confident enough to learn online.
You need technical skills
This could not be further from the truth. So long as you can open up a web browser and click a mouse, you should have no problem in taking on an online training course. The vast majority of eLearning courses are built for ease of use, even those lacking computing literacy, so you shouldn’t be worrying about the course being too hard to navigate or workaround.
eLearning is Less Effective
This is the most common myth, and also the most irritating to hear. It’s completely incorrect that eLearning is always going to be less thorough than a classroom experience. The claim is that if it does not come from a trainer or tutor, then you are learning wrong. Again, this is nonsense!
Online training is a useful way to learn in an environment that might be more suitable for your personality, not less. Not everyone thrives in a classroom. Sometimes, learning on your own is more effective than trying to pick up what a lecturer/tutor is saying in a classroom.
It’s hard to stay focused
Another myth easily disproven. It’s much easier to take on interactive content that is actually specific to you and helps you to stay focused. Think about those days in school where you almost fell asleep as your teacher spoke for the whole class!
By contrast, eLearning is all about what you do, so you need to stay focused to see the results.
It’s not as challenging
This is one that we hear a lot, and the argument is that because the general day-to-day workload is smaller, it’s going to be easier/less challenging. That is not the case. You need to come out of an eLearning course showing the same skills as someone in a classroom; the method of learning may change, but the expected results do not.
Why not try out an online course today, then?
For many people, the idea of being able to learn from their own personal space without distraction is hugely appealing. That’s why we highly recommend that you look to take on some remote / eLearning options as soon as possible. Without the usual issues such as travel and social distraction in class, many find it’s actually easier, not harder, to learn online.
However, sometimes, in addition to online training, specific job roles may also require you to complete additional practical training either at their place of work or within a training centre. Either way, Easybook Training can help.
Give it a try, and you’ll soon see why so many of the eLearning myths are just that – myths.
