Construction Recovery means more Site Supervisor jobs

Confidence is returning to the construction industry meaning the potential for more Site Supervisor jobs to be available.

We can see it all around the industry, house prices are rising, the prices of materials are rising and there are more jobs available in the industry.  Confidence is definitely returning to the industry, but is it strong enough to persuade construction companies to invest in training for their workers?  Are we still going to remain on the cautious side?  Have contractors, Government and clients learnt from their mistakes in the past?

In the main cities like London, construction companies have been able to start pricing jobs in the way they did before the recession hit.  This may sound risky, but as the economy is improving they can no longer afford to price as cheaply as they did before.  As we start to move out of the downturn, there will still be contractors working at cheaper rates, having started the jobs prior to improvements being made.

Contractors need to be more professional in the way they behave in order to win jobs.  Customers will no longer go for the cheapest option, instead choosing the most trusted.  Due to this, contractors need to ensure they have the best team for each job, the best pitch and importantly the best health and safety training.

All employees must be trained to the highest level of health and safety.  Anyone who isn't fully trained is a risk not only to themselves but also to their colleagues and the clients.  It's also important that Supervisors and Managers are trained to a higher standard and are able to effectively manage health and safety on-site.  By having well trained Supervisors and Managers you are showing clients that your company is reputable and cares about their safety and project.

Some construction companies are thinking outside of their own company and employing Site Supervisors from elsewhere.  However, as confidence is growing in the industry, it's important to maintain relationships with existing employees.  This may mean training and promoting existing staff within the organisation.  With Site Supervisor courses (SSSTS) starting at such a low price, it's more cost effective to recruit internally however the SMSTS training course is also a very popular course.

It has been reported that as the industry is improving, there is a lack of Site Supervisors and seniority figures meaning that firms are having to train employees.  Have a look at the SSSTS courses on our website, designed for training Site Supervisors.
