When you undertake a NEBOSH course you are being provided with the basis of occupational health and safety. This means that you are being kept up to date with recent changes to workplace health and safety, as well as learning how to manage health and safety in the workplace.
Health and safety rules change all the time, and whilst the
NEBOSH General course is unable to provide you with a complete run down of all changes, it is able to give you the most up-to-date laws, changes and news.
For example, just this week it was announced that up to thirty seven different industries are exempt from unannounced health and safety inspections. The list includes industries such as agriculture, emergency services and health care. On Government orders, the Health and Safety Executives have allegedly deemed that these industries are already very safe, which means they don't require spot checks. However, if you work in this industry, we believe this should make you even more aware of workplace health and safety.
If you have unannounced spot checks, then you are more likely to ensure that all of your workplace safety checks and laws are up-to-date. However, if you don't have these checks, then you may be a bit more lapse in your health and safety, this can cause even more accidents. Every business has a legal responsibility to ensure that health and safety checks are made, to protect their workers and anyone else affected by their business.
The NEBOSH course doesn't require any previous health and safety knowledge. It is a course completely for beginners. Upon completion of the course, the successful delegates will be able to understand the legal framework for good standards in health and safety. This in turn, should reduce workplace injury and illness.
Delegates will also be able to identify key features within a health and safety policy, as well as perform a health and safety audit. Again, it is important that someone within your business understands this, as it is a legal requirement to follow health and safety policies. The successful delegates will also be able to advise others on the best practices in health and safety, as well as fire safety. Following any accidents, they will be able to provide an accident report and submit it to the relevant people.
So, even if you are exempt from unannounced health and safety officer visits, ensure you are keeping up-to-date with a NEBOSH course.
