IOSH Managing Safely contributes to less work injuries

According to recent research conducted by the Health and Safety Executive the number of workplace injuries has fell since 2010 and courses such as IOSH managing safely may have had a contribution.

Research shows there were approximately 500 less injuries in the workplace which occurred over the period of 2011/12 than over 2010/11.  Workplace deaths also decreased by two and the amount of injuries which caused absence for more than three days decreased by 3,000.  This is a real positive for the health and safety industry as it shows that training courses and marketing campaigns appear to be working.

Courses such as the IOSH managing safely mean that employees are taught to be more aware of risks and injuries around them.  The IOSH courses are suitable for all, with different levels for different job titles.  The course has been developed by the Industry Of Safety and Health, which is a worldwide recognised organisation.  The aim across all of the courses is to promote a safer workplace in line with health and safety standards and an organisations responsibilities.

The IOSH organisation was founded in 1945 and registered as a charity in 1962.  They are the largest health and safety organisation in the world with over 40,000 members in 99 different countries.  They are committed to creating a workplace which is safe, sustainable and healthy.  Everyone has the right to be safe when they go to work.  Over 130,000 people take an IOSH course every year across the world.  This makes it one of the most recognisable courses available in health and safety.

With figures of workplace injury decreasing, it appears that the IOSH course and similar are working within the industry.  But IOSH don't only educate about physical injuries at work, they also educate how workers can be injured mentally.  Whilst physical workplace injuries have decreased, the amount of people having days off from work due to stress has increased.  A study has shown that 32% of people asked had called in sick for work due to stress, 52% of this number has done so over the past year.  This is another aspect of health and safety that managers, directors and employees need to be aware of.

If you want to educate your organisation about health and safety then why not enrol them on the IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely or any of the other IOSH courses.
