Preventing Injuries over Christmas

As the festive period comes upon us, workplaces shine and brighten up with the Christmas spirit that engulfs us all. Sadly, not everyone gets to enjoy the positive kind of Christmas they would have hoped for. Each year, over 80,000 people find themselves hurt in some capacity during Christmas due to tiredness, stress or just the excitement of it all. From those in the office to nights at home, it’s easy to make sure that over the Christmas period, you can avoid having to make a little trip over to A&E after a glass of wine too many!

So, what can you do to try and avoid any nasty Christmas surprises?

Plan for Dinner

Christmas dinner can be a massive challenge when you take on the cooking aspect, especially if the kitchen isn't your usual hangout. This can lead to mistakes and injuries as you miscalculate times and struggle to make space for it all.

Take the time to work this out long before you enter the Christmas period, and you'll find it's much easier to start finding solutions for dinner. Avoid any drinking as you cook, and make sure that any spills are wiped up ASAP to avoid a dramatic Christmas slip!

Clear the Way

People will be up and down all winter, so make sure that doorways, stairs and the like are all kept well clear so that everyone can transit around your home without worry. Clutter and a few drinks can easily make us lose our bearings.

Build Safely

Got something nice for Christmas? Avoid the DIY building of the item until you get it together and calm down a little. Don’t put yourself in a position where you are getting the Black & Decker set out to try and drill something after a healthy Christmas dinner. Make sure that you take your time and don’t rush.

The kids might want their new toys assembled, but moving to do it too fast – or in the wrong state of sobriety – can lead to more problems than an angry child! Always take the time to plan and prepare accordingly.

The festive time of year is a busy one, and one that tends to be filled with drama and madness. To avoid getting yourself into a position whereby you spend more time than you intended dealing with the fallout of not preparing, prepare this Christmas and prevent any incidents.
