SMSTS Courses for a reviving Construction industry

Figures last week showed that construction is on the up, meaning you need to swot up on your SMSTS courses ready for the rise.

Construction, which is measured as one of the three main factors of economic output has been the worst performing sector since the recession began in 2008.  There was an indication of positivity when the sector rose in April, however it flattened out again in May.  It is believed that these factors make it more likely that the UK market will grow in the second quarter of 2013.

Construction volumes fell to £23.7bn in the first quarter of 2013 which was its lowest level since 1999.  However, the market has shown signs of recovery.  Housebuilders have been persuaded by the Governments Help to Buy scheme with one developer revealing that their sales rate was up 17.9% in the first six months of 2013 and up 34.7% since the scheme launched in April.

House prices have also shown signs of a recovery, with a recent survey from the British Chamber of Commerce stating that business confidence was at a six year high.  Experts predict that any positive contribution from the construction sector in the second quarter would feel like a bonus for the UK economy.  The UK economy is forecast to grow by 0.9% in 2013.

The SMSTS course is designed for anyone working in construction looking to manage or supervise a site.  The course can be undertaken by existing site managers, agents or any persons due to be responsible for planning, organising and administrating groups of staff.

The SMSTS certificate is valid for five years, after which time the candidate is required to complete a refresher course which is only two days long and a fraction of the price.  The refresher course then gives a further five years on top of the certificate.

The SMSTS course covers all relevent legislation and other aspects involved with working in construction, safe working and civil engineering industries.  It also highlights the need for risk assessments and how to implement necessary control procedures and how adequate communication can astain a good health and safety culture in the workforce.
