As one of the most openly discussed topics today, mental health is something we should never take for granted. The safety and quality of our mental health is often a personal attribute that we fail to care for, even abuse. In the workplace, this can lead to everything from poor job performance to limited professional satisfaction. We have become more understanding about the impact of mental health in the workplace and also in someone's personal life, so it's good to see projects such as Building Mental Health secure its first anniversary.
The project has been an immense help to many people and has played a critical role in helping those in the construction sector be more open-minded about their mental health. It’s seen all manner of experts from sector unions and industry boards get involved alongside notable names like Mace and Lendlease. These kinds of big-name backers are essential, as is the latest Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) funding into Building Mental Health.
This funding will help to provide a whopping 156 new Mental Health First Head (MFHA) Instructors. That is essential, as they’ll help to prepare some 2,500 staff with the opportunity to learn to be Mental Health First Aiders. That is important, with one-third of the people already trained up by the programme, with the September 2019 schedule likely to be met. This transformative step forward can only be a good thing. With mental health still at the forefront of discussions in and around the workplace, this will become ever-more important. Take the growing requirement for staff to feel open and welcome in the workplace: solutions such as the Building Mental Health program will only help to overcome these problems as time goes on.
