Falls are one of the most common causes of injury in the workplace. Construction workers, maintenance workers or even members of the public can sustain serious injury or even death from a fall from height, so it’s vital to understand how to work safely and within legal guidelines.

Developed by health and safety professionals, this online course provides you with all the information you need to comply with the Work at Height Regulations 2005. You’ll understand how to undertake risk assessments in order to control and manage risks, reducing the likelihood of employees suffering a fall from height.

Please note: This course delivers knowledge and awareness of working safely at height. As it is not a practical course, you may need further training to acquire the all-round skills and knowledge necessary for your organisation.

Objectives

By the end of this 1-2 hour course, you will:

  • Understand the key elements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005
  • Identify various tasks that are undertaken at height, along with their associated risks
  • Explain what happens to cause a person or object to fall from height
  • Define the control measures that should be put in place to limit risk
  • Understand how to use access and work at height equipment properly
  • Demonstrate safe methods of access to reduce the risk of falls

This online course covers the following topic areas:

  • An introduction to the risks of working at height
  • The Work at Height Regulations 2005 – employer and employee responsibilities
  • Understanding risk assessments and identifying hazards
  • Who is at risk of harm?
  • How to evaluate, record and review risks
  • Minimising risks – prevent falls by working at a lower height
  • How to reduce the consequences of a fall
  • Personal protective equipment, using the right work equipment
  • Working with fragile surfaces and vehicles
  • Inspection of work equipment
  • Emergency procedures and training
  • Mobile towers – erecting and safe use
  • Low level access platforms and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs)
  • Ensuring the safe and secure use of ladders and stepladders

Assessment

At the end of this course, you will need to take an online exam containing 20 multiple-choice questions. The exam is marked automatically and you’ll find out your results straight away. A pass mark of 80% is required, however, if you are unsuccessful, you can re-take the exam as many times as you need to at no extra charge.

Who is this Course for?

Anyone working at height in any workplace should undertake this training to ensure they can work safely – above or below ground.

Regulation 5 of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 states that employers are responsible for ensuring that all employees engaged in working at height are competent to do so.
