4 Benefits of Air Con in the Workplace

For many people, summer is their most favourite season of all, and why wouldn’t it be? When we think of summer, we think of long days, short nights, blue skies, the sunshine, and plenty of dry and warm weather. On the weekend, or when you’re off work, hot sunshine is indeed a blessing. However, if you happen to be stuck at work in a hot and humid office as the sun shines brightly outside, well, to say that the heat can be a little oppressive would be considered a vast understatement. Working in a hot office in extreme temperatures is not only uncomfortable, but it can also potentially be dangerous as well. Because of this, more and more business owners are investing in portable and permanent air conditioning units, and are reaping the rewards. Here’s a look at four main advantages of air con in the workplace.

1. Comfortable working environment

As mentioned, if you’re relaxing on a beach, by the pool, or in your garden, hot sunshine and high temperatures are extremely welcome. If however, you are in an oppressively hot and humid office, well, you’ll be far less appreciative of the summer sunshine, and will probably be counting down the months until the cooler weather rolls in. To ensure that you and your employees are comfortable, installing an air conditioning unit would be ideal. Walking in from the hot sunshine, into a beautiful and cool air conditioned office will be like a breath of fresh air for you, and everybody will feel much happier and cooler as a result.

2. Increased employee productivity

Not only does air con help make your employees feel cooler and a great deal more comfortable, but it will also contribute to increasing morale and productivity in the workplace too. Think about it logically, would you rather work in an office where you can’t breathe properly, where you're always sweating, and where you feel sick because it’s so hot, or would you rather work in an office which is nice and cool? Obviously, you’d rather be nice and cool, and the happier and cooler you feel, the more productive you will become. If your employees are hot and sweaty, their motivation will decrease, and they’ll be less productive, which can hinder your business during the summer months. On the flipside, if their workspace is nice and cool, they’ll feel great, and they’ll become more productive as a result.

3. Energy efficient

In the past, air conditioning units were considered luxuries for only the wealthiest of individuals. Times, and indeed technology, however, has changed a great deal since then. Now, air con technology is more advanced than ever, which means that portable and permanent units can be run cheaply, as they will use far less energy than units used to. This is great because it means you can cool/heat your office, without worrying about expensive energy bills.

4. Can be used in the winter

Why would you use an air conditioning unit in the winter? Simple. Because air con units can also be used as heaters. Many devices have heating and chilling functions, which means that they blow cool air out in the summer, and can blow warm air out in the winter. Many offices find permanent units cheaper to heat offices in the winter than central heating.
