Anyone in the workplace can be affected by hazardous substances, not just those in direct contact with them. This COSHH online training course will give all workers the knowledge needed to understand the risks of working in an environment that contains hazardous substances. You’ll learn how to undertake a COSHH assessment, identify risks and implement control measures effectively, in order to work safely around hazardous substances.

Developed by health and safety professionals in accordance with UK Health and Safety legislation, this online health and safety course enables employers to meet their legal responsibility to provide training to all employees liable to exposure to substances hazardous to health.

By the end of this 2-3 hour remote learning course, you will:

  • Identify a range of hazardous substances in the workplace
  • Understand how hazardous substances can seriously affect health
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of COSHH legal requirements
  • Recognise the responsibilities of employers and employees under COSHH legal regulations
  • Understand the process and requirements for a COSHH risk assessment

  • The occupations most at risk of ill-health
  • Common health hazards, including dermatitis and asthma
  • Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR)
  • How to identify hazardous substances
  • Chemical labelling, emergency procedures and safety data sheets
  • Flammable substances – liquids, dusts and gases
  • Asbestos and lead
  • How to carry out risk assessments
  • Substituting substances and the principles of good control practice
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working systems
  • Assessments: record your findings, implement changes, review and update
  • Health surveillance and Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs)

Assessment

At the end of this e-learning course, you will need to take an online exam containing 15 multiple-choice questions. The exam is marked automatically and you’ll find out your results straight away. A pass mark of 80% is required, however, if you are unsuccessful, you can re-take the exam as many times as you need to at no extra charge.
