Objectives

By the end of this 2-3 hour online raining course, you will:

• Understand the legal requirements of preventing and managing the risk of HAVS in the workplace
• Be able to carry out a thorough risk assessment of your workplace
• Know about various ways to reduce the risk of HAVS
• Understand how to prevent and manage HAVS

This online course covers the following subject areas:

• What is Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)?
• Who is most at risk from HAVS?
• What the law says
• The legal duties of employers and employees
• The hierarchy of control measures
• The HAVS risk assessment – what it involves and how to carry one out
• Minimising the risks – tool manufacturers, exposure time, choosing low vibration tools, installing machinery correctly, maintaining machinery and reducing vibrations
• Personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Effective communication and training
• Health surveillance

Assessment

At the end of this course, you will take an online exam containing 10 multiple-choice questions. The exam is marked automatically and you’ll find out your results straight away. A pass mark of 80% is required, however, if you are unsuccessful, you can re-take the exam as many times as you need to at no extra charge.
