CITB ONLINE SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning)

Keeping supervisory knowledge sharp matters as much as gaining it in the first place, and the CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning) brings that update straight to your screen. This one day virtual course is delivered remotely using instructor-led remote learning, and the course content remains the same as classroom-based training, though delegates attend a scheduled, interactive class via Zoom video conferencing rather than in person.

Intended for those who currently hold the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme certificate and need to update their skills and knowledge in line with current legislation, the CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning) is highly interactive, delivered through case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual or group presentations. Anyone weighing up remote against classroom delivery may also want to look at the CITB SSSTS Course, which covers identical original content in person for those who prefer face-to-face learning. The course is endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group as the standard training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites.

To take part, delegates need access to a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, microphone and speaker; tablets aren't supported for this course. Delegates under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or guardian to attend successfully, and it takes approximately two to three weeks for the CITB to issue an E-Cert following successful completion.

Please note that any delegate who doesn't attend before their certificate's end date risks losing their right to attend a refresher course and will instead need to attend the full two day course again.

On successful completion of the CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning), delegates will be able to:

• Understand problems currently highlighted in the industry within their role
• Have an understanding of how health and safety law is currently structured
• Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the manager in controlling the site safely
• Carry out site inductions, briefings, tool box talks and understand the need for method statements
• Improve communication routes within site activities

The CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning) will cover the following topics:

• Current enforcement priorities / HSE / Environment
• Fire risks and emergency procedures and reporting
• Best practice updates on noise and vibration, dermatitis, asbestos, drugs and alcohol, and stress factors
• Dynamic risk assessment procedures
• Hazardous substances
• Work at height
• Manual handling
• Tool box talks

At the end of the CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning), delegates are required to sit an exam paper consisting of 25 questions, of which four are safety critical and require a short written answer. Multiple choice questions are worth one point each and safety critical questions are worth one to three points each. All safety critical questions must be answered correctly to pass, and the overall pass rate is 80% (24 out of 30). The exam takes place at the end of the course via a Zoom video call with your tutor, and no secondary devices, including mobile phones, are allowed during the exam. Delegates who successfully complete the assessment are awarded the CITB SSSTS, Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme certificate, valid for five years.

The CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning) is for any delegate with a current in-date SSSTS certificate that is due to expire.

Only delegates who have previously passed the two day SSSTS course or one day SSSTS Refresher, and can provide evidence of this, are eligible to attend the CITB Online SSSTS Refresher Course (Remote Learning). Delegates must have passed the full SSSTS course within five years of the refresher course start date to be eligible. A good understanding of spoken and written English is also necessary to attend and successfully complete the course. Students are required to complete their training on a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, microphone and speaker; tablets are not supported.
