CITB SSSTS Course

CITB SSSTS Course

2 Days CourseClassroom

Moving into a supervisory role brings a fresh layer of safety responsibility, and the CITB SSSTS Course gives newly promoted and existing supervisors the grounding they need to carry it properly. Built around the practical realities of first-line management on site, it clarifies exactly what's expected, why those duties exist, and how supervisors contribute directly to a safer workplace.

Because supervisors sit between site operatives and management, this course works well alongside the CITB SMSTS Course for organisations wanting consistent standards across every level of site leadership. Newly promoted supervisors often complete the Risk Assessment Online Course and the Manual Handling Online Course alongside this course, since both feed directly into the day-to-day duties covered here.

For supervisors on sites with specific environmental obligations, the CITB SEATS Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme Course builds naturally on the foundations laid here, while organisations wanting board-level and supervisory expectations properly aligned often pair this course with the CITB Health and Safety for Directors Course for their senior leadership team.

A good standard of spoken and written English is necessary to get the most from the day and complete the end-of-course assessment successfully.

On successful completion of the CITB SSSTS Course, delegates given supervisory responsibilities will understand:

  • Why they are carrying out their identified duties
  • What is expected of them
  • How to ensure they contribute to the safety of the workplace

The CITB SSSTS Course will cover the following topics:

  • Health & Safety at Work Act
  • The role of the supervisor
  • Behavioural safety in the workplace
  • PPE
  • Site inductions and toolbox talks
  • Risk assessments and the need for method statements
  • Monitoring site activities effectively

Delegates sit an exam paper of 25 questions at the end of the CITB SSSTS Course, four of which are safety critical and require a short written answer. Multiple-choice questions are worth one point each, while safety critical questions are worth one to three points each. All safety critical questions must be answered correctly to pass, and the overall pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30). Successful candidates are awarded the CITB SSSTS, Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme certificate, valid for five years.

The CITB SSSTS Course is aimed at first line managers, foremen, gangers, team leaders, supervisors and anyone who has, or is about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities.

A good understanding of spoken and written English is necessary to attend and successfully complete the CITB SSSTS Course.
