The Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) is the UK's industry-recognised training and competence scheme for scaffolders and access professionals. It sets the national standard for training, assessment and certification in scaffolding and related access work.
CISRS is managed by the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) on behalf of the wider construction industry, with support from employers, training providers and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
It's also widely recognised: CISRS is the preferred scaffolding qualification of major organisations including CSCS, NASC, Build UK, UNITE and the largest scaffold systems manufacturers, and is considered the standard route to demonstrating scaffolding competence under the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
Cards themselves expire every five years, with renewal requiring a current CITB Health, Safety and Environment test alongside a CISRS-approved refresher course. Letting a card lapse means the holder is no longer considered competent, regardless of experience.
It's also worth noting that CISRS will only issue a card based on training and assessment carried out at a CISRS accredited training centre, so the relevant CISRS course path must be completed through an approved provider to gain the qualification.
