ONLINE NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety Course (Remote Learning)

ONLINE NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety Course (Remote Learning)

5 Days CourseOnline Instructor Led

The ONLINE NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety Course (Remote Learning) provides students with the necessary fire safety skills and knowledge to protect people, property and the workplace from fire hazards. By the end of the course, candidates will be able to identify fire risks and implement a range of fire prevention measures, while also helping to build an appropriate fire safety culture that avoids the damaging, sometimes catastrophic losses that can result from fire. This course replaces the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management.

Delivered through virtual classroom learning via video conferencing software, the course brings tutor-led training straight to your door, ideal for anyone who values group collaboration and tutor guidance but doesn't want to travel to a classroom. To take part, delegates need access to a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, microphone and speaker; tablets aren't supported for this course. An approved, qualified trainer leads groups of up to 12 delegates, who can interact via microphone or chat throughout.

Unlike general health and safety qualifications, the ONLINE NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety Course (Remote Learning) focuses specifically on fire safety management, making it ideal for professionals with responsibility for workplace fire risk. Anyone wanting a broader, non-fire-specific grounding in health and safety should instead look at the NEBOSH National General Certificate, while site-based fire wardens looking to progress their knowledge may also want to pair this qualification with the Fire Marshal Course for more hands-on evacuation and emergency response training.

Upon completion of this NEBOSH course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the management of health and safety
  • Manage fire safety protocols in their workplace
  • Understand the principles of fires and explosions
  • Identify the causes and preventions of fires and explosions
  • Identify and implement fire prevention and protection in buildings
  • Manage the safety of people in the event of a fire
  • Conduct a fire safety risk assessment
  • Promote a positive fire safety culture

This virtual course consists of six elements:

  • Element 1: Managing fire safety, including the moral and financial reasons for managing fire safety, and the role of national governments and international bodies in developing fire safety regulation
  • Element 2: Principles of fire and explosion, including combustion, fire growth and spread, ignition of solids, liquids and gases, and explosive combustion
  • Element 3: Fuel, oxygen and ignition sources and control measures, including sources of fuel, oxygen and ignition, and appropriate control measures to minimise fire and explosive risks
  • Element 4: Fire protection of buildings, including means of fire protection, escape and early warning, fire classifications and firefighting equipment, fixed installation systems, and access requirements for the fire service
  • Element 5: Safety of people in the event of fire, including fire emergency plans, evacuation, human behaviour during a fire, and training requirements
  • Element 6: Fire safety risk assessment, including the objectives, principles and practice of fire safety risk assessments

This course consists of two assessments:

  • FSC1, an online open book examination completed electronically via the NEBOSH exam portal, giving candidates 24 hours from 11am UK time on exam day to complete and submit their paper based on a realistic workplace scenario

  • FSC2, a practical fire risk assessment based on a real workplace, using frameworks and standards such as Home Office fire guidance and PAS79-1:2020, submitted by email according to the deadline given.

There's no time restriction for the risk assessment, though three hours is recommended to compile a comprehensive submission.

Both units must be passed to achieve the full NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety, with NEBOSH external examiners evaluating both parts. Exam costs are included in the virtual classroom course price, and exam dates are set by NEBOSH.
