Objectives

By the end of this online IOSH Managing Safely course, you’ll be able to:

• Identify the key guidelines set out in the 1974 Health & Safety at Work Act
• Recognise component parts of a safety management system (HSG65 and OHSAS 18001, etc)
• Produce an adequate record of workplace incidents
• Demonstrate an accident investigation while considering human factors
• Understand the requirements for reporting and the procedures for non-reporting
• Explain the definitions of ‘risk’ and ‘hazard’
• Understand the practical techniques, data and legal requirements for risk assessment
• Define the hierarchies of precaution in the workplace
• Put monitoring checklists into action – from preparation and implementation, to monitoring and results analysis
• Have a working knowledge of health and safety codes of practice, legislation and information sources such as the Health and Safety Executive

Assessment

At the end of this remote learning course, delegates take an online exam of 25 multiple-choice questions. Once the exam has been passed, students have two weeks to complete an online practical risk assessment project.  Results of the risk assessment project are emailed within 2-3 weeks.

On successful completion of both the exam and online project, delegates are awarded the IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.  Certificates come in a hardcopy format and will be posted.

You must submit assessments within the agreed timescales, or you will risk failing the course.

Managers, line managers and supervisors from any industry sector or organisation. If you’re responsible for managing risks and resources, this e-learning course is for you.

Suggested Progression

After gaining a qualification in IOSH Managing Safely, many candidates go on to study for a NEBOSH Certificate (General, International, Construction and/or Fire Certificates).

Prerequisites

Students are required to have a good understanding of the English Language. You will have six months from the date of enrolment to study and complete the online and practical exams.
