City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365-03) Course

Building a genuine career as a qualified electrician takes more than foundation-level training, and the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365-03) Course is the next critical step, pushing existing skills into advanced territory: system design, fault diagnosis, inspection and testing, and the underlying science that ties it all together. Building directly on the Level 2 Diploma, it introduces the more complex topics employers and assessment bodies expect delegates to understand before working independently on installations.

This course is designed specifically to bridge the gap between foundation-level training and full industry recognition, delivered through a blend of face-to-face sessions at a purpose-built training centre and flexible, self-paced eLearning. The diploma itself isn't a licence to practise as a qualified electrician; what it does is complete classroom-based training and equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills to move into the industry as an electrician's mate or trainee on-site, working towards further industry recognition as they gain experience.

For many learners, this qualification also opens the door to a funded apprenticeship, with prior learning counting towards overall qualification time, and anyone building towards full recognition as a qualified electrician will find this is where that journey genuinely takes shape. Entry to this course requires the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365-02) to have been completed within the last five years, so it's essential to have that foundation in place first. It pairs well with technical CPD such as the City & Guilds 18th Edition 3-Day Course (2382-18) once qualified electricians are ready to specialise further.

Delegates should bring photographic ID, such as a passport or driving licence, to every assessment session, along with the City & Guilds Textbook: Book 2 Electrical Installations, 2nd Edition, available from online retailers.

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Apply advanced principles of electrical science, including AC/DC systems, inductance and electromagnetism
• Carry out inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical installations to industry standards
• Diagnose and rectify faults across a range of circuits and electrical equipment
• Design electrical systems for domestic, commercial and industrial environments
• Understand environmental and sustainable technology systems within modern electrical installations
• Demonstrate awareness of health and safety legislation and responsibilities relevant to building services engineering
• Identify realistic career pathways across the electrical and building services engineering sector

This City & Guilds course will cover the following units:

• Health and Safety in Building Services Engineering
• Unit 301, Environmental Technology Systems: principles, requirements and integration
• Unit 302, Principles of Electrical Science: AC/DC systems, inductance and electromagnetism
• Unit 303, Fault Diagnosis and Rectification: identifying and resolving faults safely
• Unit 304, Inspection, Testing and Commissioning: hands-on practice in purpose-built workshops
• Unit 305, Electrical Systems Design: from domestic through to industrial environments
• Unit 308, Career Awareness in Building Services Engineering: roles, pathways and industry context

Assessment is varied and progressive throughout, combining:

• Practical assessments in purpose-built workshops
• Short-answer written assessments testing applied knowledge
• Project-based assessments demonstrating broader competence
• Online multiple-choice exams aligned to City & Guilds standards

Delegates must bring photographic ID, such as a passport or driving licence, to all assessment sessions, and will need to purchase the City & Guilds Textbook: Book 2 Electrical Installations, 2nd Edition (ISBN-10: 1398361607, ISBN-13: 978-1398361607), available from online retailers.

This City & Guilds course suits:

• Those looking to build on a Level 2 foundation and progress further into the electrical trade
• Career changers wanting to move into the industry with a recognised qualification

Learners do not need to be currently employed to enrol, though gaining site experience alongside or after the course will significantly strengthen practical development.

Learners must have completed the City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Installations Diploma (2365-02) within the last five years to enrol on the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365-03) Course.
