ECITB - CCNSG Safety Passport Course

Construction and engineering sites don't let just anyone through the gate, and the ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport Course is the nationally recognised qualification that opens that door properly. Delivered over two days, it builds the mandatory basic knowledge needed to work safely on site, covering everything from safe access and manual handling through to fire precautions and working with cranes.

Many employers require this qualification alongside a company induction before granting site access, and pairing the two helps keep both employees and contractors working with lower risk to themselves and others. The CCNSG card remains valid for three years, after which the ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport Renewal Course keeps certification current, and the qualification itself meets Health & Safety Executive statutory requirements.

Because manual handling and COSHH feature heavily within the syllabus, delegates already familiar with construction site basics often pair this course with the Manual Handling Online Course for a deeper technical grounding in each area. Anyone new to the wider construction sector may also want to look at the CITB Health and Safety Awareness Course alongside this qualification, since the two cover overlapping ground from slightly different angles depending on the sector.

Delegates must bring a current UK photo card driving licence or valid passport as proof of identity, along with their National Insurance number and two passport-sized photographs on the first day; anyone unable to provide valid photo ID will not be accepted onto the course but will still be charged the full cost.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Explain health and safety law and permits to work
• Outline safe working practices relating to scaffolding
• Outline safe working practices for access and exiting
• Describe accident and first aid procedures
• Explain fire precautions and procedures
• Define COSHH and personal protective equipment
• Explain the theories of manual handling
• Outline noise procedures and practices
• Define the regulations for work with cranes and heavy equipment
• Outline excavation procedures and practices

This ECITB course consists of 10 modules:

• Introduction to health and safety law, including Permit to Work
• Safe working practices
• Safe access and egress
• Accidents and first aid procedures
• Fire precautions and procedures
• COSHH and personal protective equipment
• Manual handling
• Noise
• Working with cranes and heavy equipment
• Excavations

Delegates complete a multiple-choice test at the end of each module in the course, needing a score of 80% or more on every test to pass.

This is for employee and sub-contractor personnel working within the installation and maintenance sectors of the construction and engineering industry.

Delegates must have a good understanding of the English language in both verbal and written formats to attend the ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport Course. Candidates must also bring current UK photo card driving licence or a valid passport as proof of identity, since any other form of photo ID must be agreed in advance; anyone unable to provide valid photo ID will not be accepted onto the course but will still be charged the full cost. Delegates should also bring their National Insurance number and two passport-sized photographs on the first day of the course.
