Overview

This hands-on NPORS 180 Excavator training course is delivered using a mixture of both classroom-based theory and on-site practical training, giving you relevant skills to operate a 180° excavator safely and confidently.

This training course will ensure delegates who successfully pass the assessments are confident in preparing and performing procedures as set out in the NPORS guidelines.

At the end of this NPORS course, delegates who successfully pass the training will receive an NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years.  Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.

Objectives

After training, you’ll have a thorough understanding of the role and responsibilities of a 180° excavator operator. You’ll be able to prepare the machine for use, safely carry out on-site excavations and perform all end of shift shut and down procedures, in line with NPORS guidelines.

You’ll also understand the importance of following strict health and safety measures according to UK legislation, and spot potential hazards before they become dangerous.

With an NPORS Operator card, you’ll be able to operate a 180° excavator on construction sites, port and marine sectors, industrial sites, warehouses, utilities and associated environments.

This NPORS 180° excavator training course covers the following subject areas:

  • Common hazards associated with the construction industry
  • The manufacturer’s handbook – your essential guide to every machine you’ll use
  • Understanding the machine: controls and components
  • How to carry out pre-operational checks
  • Legislation, environmental impact and health and safety protocols
  • Identifying the correct PPE for 180° excavator operation
  • Storing PPE appropriately
  • Checking the work area for hazards
  • How to prepare the 180° excavator for use
  • Storing and transporting tools and implements
  • How to operate the machine efficiently
  • Loading and unloading procedures
  • End of shift and shut down procedures

Assessment

At the end of the training course, delegates are required to take an assessment paper and practical test. If successful in passing both elements, you’ll be awarded the traditional NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years. 

Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that you’ve completed the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test within the last two years. 

The NPORS Red card will be valid for two years and prior to the card expiry you'll need to register for a relevant plant NVQ. After successfully completing your NVQ, you’ll be issued with a blue Competent Operators Card, which is valid for five years.

Prerequisites

A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.
