Overview

This hands-on NPORS 360 Excavator training course is delivered using a mixture of both classroom-based theory and on-site practical training, ensuring you leave the course with a thorough understanding of your role and responsibilities as an operator.

Whether you’ve operated an excavator or not, this course will provide you with everything you need to know on how to operate a 360-degree excavator safely on a construction site.

Please Note: This course is aimed at novice delegates.  If you require a course for more experienced personnel, please contact our booking team on 01892 543000 who will be happy to provide alternative date options with a shorter course duration.

At the end of this training course, delegates who successfully pass the training will receive an NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years.  Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.

Objectives

On completion of this hands-on excavator training course, you’ll have a thorough understanding of the operational requirements of 360° excavators. You’ll also:

  • Explain your responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Recognise worksite hazards and specific dangers associated with the construction industry
  • Understand and adhere to relevant health and safety legislation
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook of every machine you operate
  • Safely mount and dismount
  • Understand the machine: controls, components and their functions
  • Explain PPE – what you need to wear and how to store it correctly
  • Carry out pre-operational checks, end of shift and shut down procedures
  • Be able to safely start the engine, move off, manoeuvre, stop and carry out an excavation task
  • Load material into a container or transporting vehicle
  • Safely fit a range of attachments, understand their purpose and safely remove them
  • Ensure your work area is safe
  • Configure the 360° excavator for travel across a variety of spaces/terrain

  • Pre-operational checks
  • Basic maintenance and inspections
  • Driving a 360° excavator – theory and practice

  • Excavating and digging techniques
  • Trenching
  • Back-filling
  • Parking safely
  • Shut down procedures
  • Travelling around the site
  • Travelling on a public highway

Assessment

At the end of the course, delegates are required to take an assessment paper and practical test. If successful in passing both elements, you’ll be awarded the traditional NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years. 

Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that you’ve completed the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test within the last two years. 

The NPORS Red card will be valid for two years and prior to the card expiry you'll need to register for a relevant plant NVQ. After successfully completing your NVQ, you’ll be issued with a blue Competent Operators Card, which is valid for five years.

Prerequisites

A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.

Anyone wishing to apply for the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.
