NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper Course N204

Overview

Using a mixture of classroom learning and hands on practical exercises, this NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper training course will give a thorough understanding of how to safely operate the machinery, as well as key health and safety legislation around the construction industry and related environments.  If you’ve never used a forward tipping dumper before, this  course will give you a thorough understanding of health and safety requirements, pre-operational checks, manoeuvring and operating forward tipping dumpers in a variety of environments – construction, port and marine sectors, warehousing, industrial sites and utilities.

At the end of this course, delegates who successfully pass the training will receive an NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years.  Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.

Objectives

By the end of this NPORS training course, you’ll have a thorough understanding of how to operate a forward tipping dumper safely, in line with NPORS guidelines. You’ll also:

  • Understand and identify a range of worksite hazards
  • Recognise your role and responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for whichever machine you’re using
  • Be able to accurately follow health and safety procedures before, during and after operating the machine

Agenda

This training course will cover the following subject areas:

  • Construction industry overview – what’s required under the law?
  • What are your responsibilities as a forward tipping dumper operator?
  • Environmental obligations around construction and industrial sites
  • Getting to grips with the manufacturer’s handbook
  • Understanding the machine: controls and components
  • How to store attachments safely
  • Transporting tools and implements
  • How to operate the machine safely
  • PPE – what you need to wear and how to store it correctly
  • How to prepare the forward tipping dumper for use
  • Carrying out essential pre-operational checks and shut down procedures
  • Checking the work area for hazards
  • Trailers: attaching, setting out and preparing for operation
  • Theory and practical testing

Assessment

At the end of the course, delegates are required to take an assessment paper and practical test. If successful in passing both elements, you’ll be awarded the traditional NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years. 

Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that you’ve completed the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test within the last two years. 

The NPORS Red card will be valid for two years and prior to the card expiry you'll need to register for a relevant plant NVQ. After successfully completing your NVQ, you’ll be issued with a blue Competent Operators Card, which is valid for five years.

Prerequisites

A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.

Anyone wishing to apply for the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.
