NPORS Industrial Counterbalance Forklift Truck Course (Experienced Worker - N001)

Overview

Using a combination of theory and practical tests, this 1 day experienced worker assessment test only course has been created to provide skilled users with the necessary certification. 

The NPORS course will consist of hands-on experience in carrying out safety checks, loading, setting down, manoeuvring and maintaining the machine. You’ll also leave with a clear understanding of your role and responsibilities, in line with the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) safety requirements.

On successful completion of the test delegates will be able to demonstrate they have the required skills and knowledge to safely operate a Counterbalanced Lift Truck.

Objectives

By the end of this NPORS Forklift course and on the job experience, you will:

• Have a general knowledge of the construction industry and safety regulations
• Understand your role and responsibilities as a Counterbalanced Lift Truck operator
• Be familiar with the manufacturer’s handbook
• Understand the machine, and how to operate it in a safe manner
• Identify the Counterbalanced Lift Truck’s main components
• Communicate each function of the machine
• Explain the dangers of overloading and the importance of truck and load stability
• Carry out comprehensive safety checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidance
• Carry out basic manoeuvres in various conditions, both laden and unladen
• Be able to safely refuel, charge and maintain the truck
• Demonstrate the end of shift and shut down procedures

This 1 day test only NPORS course will consist of:

• Practical Assessment

Assessment

Delegates are required to undertake a theory test of 25 questions and practical test.  Successful students will be awarded the NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for 3 or 5 years. 

Anyone wishing to obtain the NPORS CSCS Operator Card are also required to hold the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment touchscreen test dated within the last 2 years.  This card is only valid for 2 years and is NOT renewable.

Who Should Attend?

This course is for anyone who operates, or wishes to operate an industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck, and has a minimum of 18 months experience. Some operators take this course to gain the relevant certification as proof of experience, or to refresh their knowledge.

Prerequisites

Candidates are required meet the below as a minimum:

• be at least 18 years of age
• have a good understanding of written and verbal English
• 18 months experience in operating a forklift truck
