NPORS Telescopic Handler Course N010

Overview

Whether you’re a complete novice or have some basic working knowledge, this NPORS Telescopic Handler training course will provide you with all you need to know in order to operate a telehandler forklift truck safely.  Through a combination of theory and practical learning, anyone attending this NPORS course will leave with a solid understanding on how to use the equipment safely within a worksite environment.

At the end of this course, delegates who successfully pass both theory and practical elements will receive an NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years.  Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.

Objectives

By the end of this NPORS telescopic handler training course, you will have a solid understanding of:

  • Current legislation related to the industry
  • Common hazards associated with heavy plant machinery
  • Health and safety best practice
  • Your role and responsibilities as a telehandler forklift truck operator
  • The manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine you’ll be operating
  • Understanding the machine: locating controls and components and explaining their functions
  • Mount and dismount safely
  • Carry out pre-operational checks
  • Be able to start the engine, move off, manoeuvre to the work area and stop safely
  • Configure the telescopic handler for travel
  • Understand the complexities of travelling over different terrain, including hills, inclines, rough surfaces, confined spaces and open areas
  • Safely manoeuvre when laden and unladen
  • Ensure the work area is safe
  • Configure the machine for lifting and load handling tasks
  • Carry out a range of lifting and load handling tasks safely
  • Safely fit and adjust a range of attachments, understand their purpose and safely remove them
  • External transport and machine transportation: Explain load and unload procedures
  • Carry out end of shift and shut down procedures

  • Working in confined spaces

  • Bulk stacking – best practice
  • Basic rules for safe lorry loading
  • Verbal theory test (multiple choice)
  • Practical assessment

Assessment

At the end of this NPORS training course, delegates are required to complete theory and practical tests. If successful in passing both assessments, you’ll be awarded the traditional NPORS Operator Card, which is valid for three years. 

Should you require the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), you must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that you’ve completed the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test within the last two years. 

The NPORS Red card will be valid for two years and prior to the card expiry you'll need to register for a relevant plant NVQ. After successfully completing your NVQ, you’ll be issued with a blue Competent Operators Card, which is valid for five years.

This NPORS N010 telehandler novice course is ideal for those who have little or no experience and wish to achieve a recognised qualification in operating the machinery.

Prerequisites

A good understanding of spoken and written English will be necessary in order to attend and complete the course successfully.

Anyone wishing to apply for the NPORS/CSCS Card (NPORS Red Trained Operators Card), must confirm at the time of booking and provide evidence that the CSCS HSE Operatives touch screen test has been completed within the last two years.
