PASMA Training Standard Tower Course

The PASMA Standard Tower Course is aimed at any person who is involved with the use of Mobile Access Towers. This course provides candidates with the necessary training to safely erect, use, inspect and dismantle aluminium or fibreglass Mobile Access Towers, covering component identification, assembly criteria, stability, hazards, safe use, maintenance and inspection.

Once qualified, delegates whose work involves stairs, steps or escalators should follow up with the PASMA Tower on Stairs Course, which builds directly on the knowledge covered here. Anyone needing low level access equipment alongside standard towers should instead consider the PASMA Combined Tower & Low Level Access Course, which covers both in a single qualification.

Upon successfully passing both the theory and practical assessments, delegates access their virtual photo-card and certificate via the TowerSure app, available for both iOS and Android devices, valid for five years. PASMA Operator training courses require delegates to bring ID or a National Insurance number to ensure certification is correct, alongside a safety helmet with chin strap, safety boots or shoes, gloves, and a hi-vis vest. Please note that PASMA can take up to four weeks to issue certification, and should a physical copy be required, additional fees will be incurred.

The aim and objective of the PASMA Standard Tower Course is for each person attending to be able to safely, correctly and competently identify, assemble, alter, use, move, inspect and dismantle prefabricated aluminium and fibreglass Mobile Access Towers in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, current regulations and accepted approved methods, and to have an understanding of current relevant legislation and regulations on Mobile Access Towers.

The PASMA Standard Tower Course will cover the following topics:

• Introduction to Mobile Access Towers
• Legal Overview: Health & Safety / Work at Height Regulations 2005
• British & European Standards
• Guidance & Information on Tower Components, Inspection & Maintenance
• Tower Assembly & Dismantle (3T Method & Advanced Guardrail)
• Tower Stability & Tying-in
• Hazards When Using Mobile Access Towers
• Your Responsibilities When Using Mobile Access Towers
• Multiple Choice Question Paper
• Practical Training Session
• Practical Assessment

Candidates attending the PASMA Standard Tower Course will be required to complete both a written theory test and a practical assessment. Upon successfully passing both, delegates access their virtual photo-card and certificate via the TowerSure app. Should a physical copy be required, additional fees will be incurred. Certification is valid for five years, and please note that PASMA can take up to four weeks to issue certification.

The PASMA Standard Tower Course is designed for anyone in an organisation who assembles, alters, dismantles, moves, inspects and, most importantly, uses alloy or fibreglass mobile access towers in the workplace. This includes construction sites and all other workplaces, such as schools, offices and factories, both internally and externally.

Candidates attending the PASMA Standard Tower Course must meet the following entry requirements: be at least 16 years old, be literate, and be physically fit. Since the safe use of mobile access towers requires delegates to consult safety notices and thoroughly understand the manufacturer's instruction manual, literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any tower user. Similarly, since the assembly and use of mobile access towers can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health, and should generally not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights or vertigo, giddiness or difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, or alcohol, drug dependence or psychiatric illness. Anyone with concerns about literacy, language comprehension or fitness should raise them with their employer, who can assess and put suitable measures in place.

All delegates will be required to assist in the assembly, alteration, moving and dismantling of a Mobile Tower. Any delegate who displays a fear of height that would, in the opinion of the instructor, make them a danger to themselves or others may be failed on the practical assessment.
