COSHH Training: The Important Facts to Know

COSHH Training: The Important Facts to Know

When it comes to improving your long-term career prospects, there is often much to consider and evaluate. For many of us, though, the most crucial consideration is undergoing the proper training. For example, have you ever considered COSHH training? If so, you should know what it entails. Knowing how to manage hazardous materials is essential, and this is a big reason why COSHH Training has become a staple for anyone in the Health and Safety industry. What, though, does the process involve?

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) has become a crucial part of the Health and Safety industry and shows no signs of fading away. Today, more hazardous materials and substances can be found in our workplaces and our day-to-day living activities. As such, having a specialist who can manage the handling and care of such materials is very important to long-term safety and care.

The COSHH Online Course is designed to help protect workers who might come into contact with potentially dangerous substances. As part of your training, you will learn the following:

  • The carrying out of COSHH assessments, ensuring the facility and location is safe to work.
  • The evaluation and then elimination of any dangerous and harmful substances.
  • The development of a day-to-day working process that minimises risk.
  • Reducing exposure and, where needed, setting up hazard and exclusion zones.
  • The importance of creating proper exhaust ventilation.
  • Creation of emergency plans and arrangements should protocol fail, and disaster emerges.
  • The management and selection of appropriate PPE.
  • The storage, control, and containment of any dangerous substances.

COSHH is an all-encompassing process, covering everything from chemicals, gas, dust, and fumes, and even germs such as legionnaires disease.

COSHH Training: Learning the eight steps

One of your training's main parts under COSHH Training stems from the 8-step plan that is put in place. This includes the following steps:

  1. Assessing the risk inherent in the situation.
  2. Deciding on any precautions to take.
  3. Preventing and minimising exposure.
  4. Controlling the process and arranging controls.
  5. Monitoring and managing the solution, including exposed staff.
  6. Carrying out health surveillance and management.
  7. Arranging and enacting emergency procedures when needed.
  8. Planning training and information divulgence for all staff involved.

COSHH training is needed if you are involved in the management or supervision of staff members who might come into contact with hazardous material and/or substances. COSHH training courses can also be beneficial to anyone who thinks they might be involved in interacting with dangerous and harmful substances over time.
