Getting NEBOSH Certification

The National Examination Board for Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is a recognised UK-based examination committee that awards certification for health and safety practices, as well as environmental and management roles. NEBOSH was founded in 1979 and has grown to be one of the most prominent bodies when it comes to health and safety certification.

NEBOSH is a highly recognised body, and 90% of employers will demand a NEBOSH certification when considering a person for a job. While NEBOSH might offer an array of safety course modules, they do not personally train people for them. Instead, they develop a syllabus or curriculum that will help prepare people for various professional roles. The courses range from beginners to professional, and one can take any one of them based on their professional needs.

NEBOSH often test candidates by both written and work-based assignments. Should you be preparing to take a NEBOSH exam soon, then here are a few tips to help you out;

• Do not be afraid to use abbreviations that are related to the course module like HSE, ILO, RIDDOR and HSWA.
• Try to do the question you know first rather than wasting time figuring them out in order. This both saves you time and eases you into the exam as time progresses.
• You can use command words when answering a question, but you should be mindful of the context when you use them.
• You can also decide to write out your answer in bullet points, this isn’t a problem along as your answers are accurate and well thought out.

There are two essential safety courses that most people like to take in our experience namely; the NEBOSH General Certificate Course and The NEBOSH Construction Certificate Course. In the General Certificate Course, applicants are trained on the fundamentals of health and safety, the legalities that concern health, safety, economic and moral duties of the employees, recognising potential hazards in a workplace and carrying out a basic risk assessment.

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate is devised for mainly CDMs in the construction industry, Supervisors and Managers. This construction training course helps prepare them for overseeing the safety of those under them as well recognised potential hazards and communicate these to other employees.
