IOSH, the Institute of Safety and Health have different courses available depending on your job role within the company, the IOSH Managing Safely course for example, has been put together specifically for managers and supervisors in any organisation and industry.
There are so many responsibilities that come from a managerial role, as well as completely your own job on a daily basis you also are responsible for those underneath you. This doesn't only mean ensuring they are doing their job but also making sure everything is done to reduce the risk of danger for them. It doesn't matter if you are working on a construction site or in an office, risks are everywhere.
The IOSH Managing Safely course includes every aspect of health and safety that you would need to know to manage effectively and safely. The overall aim of the course is to promote a safer workplace in line with a companies health and safety policies and Government legislations.
As health and safety is such a large area, there are many different aspects to the course and a wide range of information to cover. This includes learning about the main provisions in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 as well as the Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations 1999. With this knowledge, the delegate will know what is required of them as a manager. Delegates are also taught how to complete accident record forms effectively and the procedures to follow when reporting an accident.
The course runs for four days and is finalised with a formal exam and an assessment. Following completion of the course, the delegate is given an
IOSH Managing Safely certificate and is then recommended to progress onto a
NEBOSH General certificate, to learn in more detail different aspects of health and safety.
