NVQ Level 3 in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating)

The NVQ Level 3 in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating) course is aimed at candidates who are currently working as a junior estimator on a construction site and who want to demonstrate to employers a level of knowledge and expertise.  On successful completion of this nvq course, students will be able to apply for their CSCS Gold Advanced Craft Card.

This NVQ qualification enables you, the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate your competence in a real workplace environment so you can work in Estimating within the construction industry.

Applicants MUST be at least 16 years old and have a good understanding of the English language.  The NVQ course is designed so the learner can gain the qualification while at work and enhance their career prospects.


Objectives

At the end of the NVQ Level 3 in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating) course, candidates will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of estimating skills and knowledge used on a construction site. Candidates will also be able to specialise in one chosen area for example work operations, preparing drawings or data analysis.

This Level 3 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating) course will cover the following topics:

  • Operate project information systems
  • Prepare and process invitations to tender
  • Prepare estimates, bids and tenders
  • Coordinating programmes and schedules of work
  • Building successful relationships on a construction site 

Students will also be required to choose one optional unit from the following:

  • Record the condition of property in construction
  • Recommend and monitor supplies of plant and equipment in construction
  • Prepare proposals and obtain feedback for the provision of products and services in construction
  • Prepare for, collect, analyse and present survey data in construction
  • Prepare for work operations in construction
  • Prepare for and carry out physical testing in construction
  • Prepare drawings and schedules in construction
  • Prepare and monitor costs and accounts in construction
  • Monitor, maintain and improve supplies of materials in construction
  • Integrate and control project design information in construction
  • Implement contract work in construction
  • Establish and maintain the dimensional control of construction works
  • Assess, plan, and monitor project methods and progress in construction

Assessment

In order to successfully complete this Level 3 construction NVQ course; an NVQ assessor will observe the learner through a range of methods:

  • observations to see skills in practice
  • professional discussions
  • written questions
  • a portfolio of evidence
