NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry)
The NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations course is aimed at candidates who are already working as a joiner or carpenter and want to achieve a qualification that recognises their skills and expertise. On successful completion of this NVQ course, students will be able to apply for their CSCS Blue Skilled Workers Card.
The main focus of the course is to demonstrate the learners occupational competence in wood.
Applicants MUST be at least 16 years old and have a good understanding of the English language. The course is designed so the learner can gain the qualification while at work and enhance their career prospects.
Objectives
At the end of the NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry) course, candidates will be able to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills in a number of areas including joinery, erecting walls, floors and roofs, and using cutting machines.
Agenda
The NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry) course will cover the following topics:
- Health and safety in the workplace
- Setting up and operating cutting machines
- Setting up, operating and manufacturing wheelwrighting products
- Moving and handling
Students will also be required to gain credits from a choice of optional units which include:
- fixing components
- architectural joinery
- building a timber framework
- heritage site carpentry
- installing frames
- hinges and mouldings
- erecting timber walls
- roofs and floors
Assessment
In order to successfully complete this Level 2 construction NVQ course; an NVQ assessor will observe the learner through a range of methods:
- observations to see skills in practice
- professional discussions
- written questions
- a portfolio of evidence
*To apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card candidates must have an up to date CITB Health and Safety Touch Screen Test*

CSCS card costs
The current cost of the CSCS card is £36. Students will be required to apply for their CSCS card directly on receipt of their certificate.
