Construction Health & Safety Group
The Construction Health and Safety Group (CHSG) is a long-established charitable training organisation founded in 1952 to improve health and safety standards in the construction industry. Originally formed as a London-based accident prevention group, it adopted its current name in 1976 and gained charitable status in 1981, building a reputation spanning over seven decades.
CHSG operates from the John Ryder Training Centre in Chertsey, Surrey, its permanent home since the early 1980s. The organisation's course portfolio is extensive, covering CITB qualifications such as SMSTS, SSSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator and Supervisor training, and Site Environmental Awareness, alongside CISRS scaffolding courses, mental health first aid, and IPAF's MEWPs for Managers.
A notable development has been the launch of the CHSG Fire Safety Academy, created in direct response to industry demand and offering a dedicated range of fire safety courses, including fire risk assessment, fire door inspection, and a full Diploma in Construction Fire Safety and Fire Risk Management. Many CHSG and CITB courses are also available remotely, giving learners added flexibility.
With a clear mission centred on protecting and preserving occupational health and safety standards across construction and related industries, CHSG continues to foster collaboration between industry bodies, government, and the workforce, while developing its training provision to meet changing sector needs.
