CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWCTC) Refresher Course

Keeping temporary works knowledge current matters just as much as gaining it in the first place, and the CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Refresher Course exists to bring qualified co-ordinators up to speed with the latest guidance before their certification lapses. Delivered in a single day, it builds directly on prior understanding of BS 5975:2019 and reinforces the practical management skills needed to keep temporary works safe on sites of any size.

This refresher assumes delegates have already completed the CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWCTC) Course, so it revisits and updates that foundation rather than starting from scratch. Co-ordinators due for renewal alongside their site management colleagues often book this refresher at the same time as the CITB SMSTS Refresher Course, keeping every level of site leadership current together.

Since temporary works risk management overlaps closely with broader site risk assessment, this course pairs well with the Risk Assessment Online Course for delegates wanting a fuller refresh of their risk management knowledge. Anyone whose temporary works responsibilities include scaffolding or shoring should also look at the CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection Course (SITS) alongside this refresher, and those building a wider technical grounding in health and safety management may consider the NEBOSH National General Certificate as a longer-term progression.

Only delegates who have successfully passed the two-day CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Course within the last five years, and can provide evidence of this, are eligible to attend, with a good standard of spoken and written English also necessary to complete the course successfully. Please note that although there are technical elements within the course, it isn't a temporary works technical awareness course.

By the end of the course, delegates will have up-to-date knowledge of managing risks on temporary works sites, building on their prior understanding of:

• Adopting procedural controls as outlined in BS 5975:2019
• The essentials of good risk management under BS 5975:2019
• Safety management for temporary works
• Managing temporary works on large and small sites
• The 4Cs: communication, co-ordination, co-operation and competence

This CITB course will cover the following topics:

• The role and responsibilities of a Temporary Works Co-ordinator
• The management process as defined in BS 5975:2019
• The effect of BS 5975:2019 on the Temporary Works Co-ordinator role
• Understanding temporary works documentation
• Guidance and legislation relating to temporary works
• Health and safety

• Risk management

   

Please note that although there are technical elements within the course, it isn't a temporary works technical awareness course.

Delegates are required to attend the full day's training on the course, during which they're assessed on their knowledge and understanding of each subject area. A multiple-choice test paper of 22 questions, four of which are free text, is sat at the end of the day, with a pass mark of 78% (21 out of 27). Successful candidates are awarded CITB certification, valid for five years.

This CITB course is only for those who have previously completed the CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Course and been awarded a CITB certificate. 

Anyone acting as a Temporary Works Co-ordinator, or holding managerial responsibility for temporary works on site, needs to maintain their knowledge by attending a refresher every five years. This includes site managers, project managers, designers, supervisors, consultants and contractors looking to refresh and maintain their knowledge of temporary works.

Only delegates who have successfully passed the two-day CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Course within the last five years, and can provide evidence of this, are eligible to attend the CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Refresher Course. A good understanding of spoken and written English is also necessary to attend and successfully complete the course.
