If you are working within a supervisory role on a construction site, then you will need to be trained appropriately in health and safety, which may mean undertaking an SSSTS training course. The importance of undertaking proper training when you are in charge of a construction site cannot be stressed enough.
The last reported statistics show that there were fifty deaths in 2010/11 on construction sites. Whilst this is increasing year on year, there are thousands of injuries on top of this number. The SSSTS course is available to all those working in supervisory roles in construction. This includes site safety supervisors, managers and employers. Each of these roles have a duty to follow the law and be aware of ways in which danger can be reduced for employees. With this in mind, the SSSTS course is also a good course if you are looking for a promotion at work.
The SSSTS course only lasts two days and, upon completion you are given a SSSTS card which can be shown to all future employers. The course is aimed to help you to succeed as a manager as well as reduce the risk of injury within the industry.
So what exactly does the two day course entail? Over the course, delegates will be taught the importance of, and how to carry out risk assessments. They will also be shown how to implement any control measures which need creating on site. One factor highlighted as a problem in the construction industry is the importance of communicating. It is vital that supervisors are able to communicate effectively to employees in order to communicate policies, procedures and safe work methods.
Delegates will also be taught how to understand and identify problems within the industry. This is required in order to work pro-actively. As with any industry, the construction industry changes all the time, it is therefore important to stay up-to-date with the latest industry legislations and news. As well as all this, delegates are taught how to enrol new employees in health and safety onto the construction site.
