SMSTS training for a safe construction site

SMSTS training for a safe construction site

As you know working on a construction site can be a dangerous job, but a necessary one at that. To ensure the safe running of a construction site the SMSTS training course is essential.

SMSTS stands for Site Management Safety Training Scheme and anyone working in construction management is required to undertake the course. Safe practices in any workplace is essential, especially in construction. Every construction site has many dangers which are only made worse when workers are not following the correct safety measures. The SMSTS training course is needed if you are already a site manager, however, by adding this qualification to your name it is a great opportunity to make yourself more appealing to current or future employees.

For many people the drive into work holds more dangers than the average day to day tasks, however, for a construction worker the real dangers start once they reach work. There are a number of risks that have to be taken into account when managing a construction site because you are not only responsible for your own well being but also for the safety of your co-workers. The risks include working from a height, possible fire and operating and running heavy machinery, this highlights just a few.

The SMSTS training course aims to educate site managers and supervisors of the possible health and safety risks that they will come across while completing everyday tasks. All vital information learnt on these courses should be fed down to site workers where appropriate to try and help reduce injures and accidents that could easily be avoided by conducting proper procedures.

Not only is the site manager the first port of contact if an employee feels unsafe in the workplace or has any concerns but they are also responsible for the health and safety of any visitors on site.

The SMSTS training course allows the delegate to work at management level and is valid for five years. After five years, if you want to continue working at that level, you will be required to undertake a refresher course. The refresher course is only a two day course and once completed it will mean your are qualified in site management for a further five years. The whole idea of the SMSTS refresher course to to ensure all supervisors or managers are up-to-date with all important legislations and procedures that could have possibly changed in the past five years. SMSTS refresher training is vital in the continual health and safety of a working construction site.
